7AI: Delivering Enterprise-Ready SSO at Scale

Descope 7AI Customer Story Thumbnail

7AI is an agentic security platform that combines the speed, swarming capabilities, and power of autonomous AI to defend organizations from cyber threats. As the company scaled rapidly to serve enterprise needs, their authentication needs grew exponentially. With each new customer needing their own single sign-on (SSO) implementation and many serving sub-organizations, 7AI sought identity infrastructure that could scale without introducing engineering bottlenecks.

About 7AI

The 7AI platform deploys autonomous AI agents that handle essential cybersecurity tasks without human intervention. 7AI agents perform alert triage, threat investigation, and incident response, which offloads repetitive work so security teams can focus on strategy.

The company serves two primary customer segments through the platform:

  • Enterprise security teams seeking to automate alert processing and threat investigation at scale

  • Managed service providers (MSPs) who deliver 7AI’s capabilities to their own enterprise customers

The 7AI model centers around serving enterprise customers who face complex security challenges, with many moving parts that can be intelligently automated. As these customers require sophisticated identity management (including SSO and granular access control), the authentication infrastructure at 7AI became a critical component of their onboarding process.

Nir Soudry, Head of R&D at 7AI said:

“Any new 7AI customer can have their own unique SSO connection, possibly with multiple identity providers. Because of this, we started looking for ways that didn’t require direct involvement from our team for faster, more streamlined SSO onboarding.”

Without a means to provide self-service SSO configuration, each customer bringing their own IdP would require engineering involvement. As 7AI’s pipeline grew, authentication onboarding loomed as a possible bottleneck in their sales cycle. For an organization selling speedy automation to MSPs and security teams, tedious and manual auth processes could potentially undermine their value.

Startup speed, enterprise security

7AI began with the Descope Startup Plan, which provided a free year to test and explore the solution’s capabilities. During that time, they heavily utilized the power of Descope’s SSO Setup Suite due to their B2B and B2B2B-based model. Customers included universities with different schools under one umbrella, companies with many subsidiaries, and security consultants leveraging 7AI services as part of their offering.

These organizational structures called for swift SSO onboarding and granular subtenant functionality. A customer admin might need the tools and visibility to access everything, while subtenants expect logical separation and the ability to white-label their 7AI instance. In short order, 7AI went from a handful of SSO connections to expecting hundreds by the end of the year.

As their Startup Plan neared its end, 7AI decided to stick with Descope thanks to a number of factors:

  • SSO at massive scale: Descope’s self-service SSO configuration could support rapid onboarding and hundreds of connections at scale

  • Hierarchical multi-tenancy: Parent-child tenant relationships allowed service providers that were customers of 7AI to manage their customers

  • Enterprise security features: Audit logging, GDPR compliance, and SCIM provisioning all met their needs for enterprise-grade security

  • Developer workflows: Machine-to-machine (M2M) authentication (developer token generation) for internal teams accessing production APIs

  • Reduced developer burden: Eliminated time that would have been spent manually creating, configuring, and troubleshooting homegrown or open-source authentication.

With Descope, customers can now self-configure SSO in minutes rather than spending days or weeks in limbo with engineering sync calls. Tenant admins can manage their own sub-tenants, which is especially useful for managed service providers who are customers of 7AI. And audit logs can be exported to a 7AI customer’s own log management system of choice, giving them extra control and visibility into their instance.

Nir Soudry, Head of R&D at 7AI said:

“We started with Descope and stuck with Descope because it’s been a business enabler. With our B2B and B2B2B customer base, enterprise readiness is non-negotiable; Descope delivers on all fronts.”

The Descope experience

As usage of the Descope solution scaled up, 7AI graduated from the Startup Plan to one befitting their impressive growth. Throughout the process, they explored the many possibilities available with Descope, such as:

  • Admin widgets, which would allow their tenant admins to leverage a wide range of tools with user management and auditing features

  • Access control, including role-based access controls (RBAC) with tenant-level flexibility

  • Descope Flows, which abstract complex authentication flow creation into a visual, workflow-based builder

Nir Soudry, Head of R&D at 7AI said:

“Descope allowed us to trial different approaches, like integrating widgets. From a developer experience standpoint, it’s been a great environment for us. We don’t need our own user or tenant database; we just rely on Descope.”

Scaling authentication for agentic security

Choosing a managed authentication solution was a tactical decision for 7AI. Their engineering focus needed to remain on advancing agentic security, not building and maintaining identity infrastructure that enterprise customers expect as essentials.

7AI achieved a number of key benefits from using Descope both in their early days and as they grew:

  • Eliminated SSO bottlenecks: Because of their B2B and B2B2B customer base, 7AI needed effortless SSO that didn’t pull unnecessary developer focus.Descope helped them achieve both with self-service onboarding options

  • Provided deep multi-tenant options: 7AI serves both businesses directly and managed service providers (MSP), each with their own per-tenant expectations; Descope delivers the granularity and features 7AI requires to meet those needs

  • Increased developer efficiency: Internal teams freed from auth development and maintenance to focus on the core product

  • Improved customer control: Granular tenant admin-level options gave 7AI customers more control over their instances and greater visibility

Nir Soudry, Head of R&D at 7AI said:

“We have the motivation to stay with Descope because we really appreciate the team. Enterprise-grade authentication is table stakes for meeting the needs of our customers. Descope helps us deliver that.”
