Collabrios Health: Tenant-Aware Auth & SSO

Collabrios Health Descope Customer Story Thumbnail

Collabrios Health, a purpose-built software solution that unifies the entire care delivery journey and trusted by PACE, aging services, and community-based organizations, was facing delayed customer onboarding and increased engineering overhead due to a patchwork of legacy identity systems. Learn why they chose Descope to provide a tenant-aware “single front door” experience to tens of thousands of EHR users across multiple applications.

About Collabrios Health

Collabrios Health delivers connected technology that unifies care coordination, strengthens compliance, and drives meaningful outcomes across the aging and community-based care ecosystem. Trusted by state and local agencies as well as more than half of all PACE centers nationwide, their integrated platform brings EHR, TPA, and analytics together to provide real-time intelligence, seamless workflows, and the confidence to lead with clarity. Built for the complexities of aging services and designed for the future of coordinated care, Collabrios Health delivers the stability, flexibility, and innovation organizations need to support those who rely on them most.

Collabrios was formed through the merging of three industry leaders: RTZ Systems (a pioneer in PACE-specific EMRs), PeerPlace Networks (a leading case management solution for government and community-based organizations), and Tabula Rasa’s PACE EMR division (comprising integrated care platforms like TruChart and PACELogic).

Ameya Ambardekar, SVP of Engineering at Collabrios Health, said:

“As a unified platform for government, community, and PACE programs, our goal is to offer a seamless experience for care providers and administrators from intake to outcomes. Identity and access management is a core part of that goal.”

The engineering burden of legacy identity systems

Collabrios Health had long-standing applications with multiple legacy IAM deployments that were causing developer strain and operational complexity.

  • Fragmentation: Stitching together three different legacy deployments required continual engineering effort at the cost of core product initiatives.

  • Rigidity: Enforcing tenant-specific requirements (e.g. custom password policies, session management, auth methods) was cumbersome and required custom code.

  • Customer onboarding: Onboarding customers to SSO and SCIM required lots of manual back-and-forth with tenant admins.

The Collabrios Health team were preparing to launch a new application by the end of 2025 and decided to take that opportunity to modernize their authentication stack–for the new application first, followed by migrating all existing legacy applications as well.

Ameya Ambardekar, SVP of Engineering at Collabrios Health, said:

“Customer IAM upkeep was diverting our engineers’ time and effort away from product initiatives that were critical to us maintaining our industry leadership and cutting edge. We decided it was time to uplevel our customer authentication for both the present and the future.”

The Descope experience

The Collabrios team looked at multiple authentication providers and quickly decided on Descope after feeling confident of its alignment with their CIAM needs.

Ameya Ambardekar, SVP of Engineering at Collabrios Health, said:

“Our team had positive experiences with Descope at a previous consumer healthcare company, but we were delighted to learn how the same platform could also perfectly meet the needs of a B2B2C healthcare organization with rigorous multi-tenancy requirements.”

Many Descope capabilities helped Collabrios Health make their decision, including the following:

Low / no-code flow builder: Descope Flows enabled the Collabrios team to create visual authentication journeys, abstracting away engineering complexity and freeing up time to focus on their core initiatives.

Multiple authentication methods: The ability to mix and match authentication methods such as username / password, SSO, and passkeys meant that Descope could easily adapt to cater to auth needs for a variety of apps.

Deep SSO support: Descope supported every flavor of SSO (SAML and OIDC, IdP and SP-initiated) and multiple identity providers per tenant, both of which were critical to meet the identity requirements of Collabrios’s government and healthcare stakeholders.

Simplified onboarding: Collabrios customers could self-configure their SSO and SCIM connections and control granular settings at the tenant level rather than relying on the Collabrios team’s support for every change.

Multi-tenant flexibility: Descope’s multi-tenant architecture enabled Collabrios to easily cater to tenant-specific requirements relating to authentication methods, password policies, access control mechanisms.

Ameya Ambardekar, SVP of Engineering at Collabrios Health, said:

“Descope helps us provide a “single front door” access experience to each tenant while catering to bespoke requirements–from SSO onboarding and login screens to auth and access control methods. Our customer authentication now feels as cutting-edge as our products are.”

A “single front door” to comprehensive care

Descope provided tenant-aware, enterprise-grade authentication and SSO for Collabrios Health’s customer-facing apps, offering a number of benefits:

  • Developer agility: No / low code workflows and SDKs provide out-of-the-box identity infrastructure without consuming developer resources.

  • SSO readiness: Collabrios can go from partial SSO coverage for their customers to full-fledged support across protocols and initiation modalities.

  • Empowered customers: Delegating identity management to customers allows customer tenant admins to configure SSO for Collabrios apps on their own, greatly simplifying onboarding.

  • Scalable multi-tenancy: Collabrios could now manage complex, tenant-specific auth requirements across government organizations and hospitals.

Flexible, scalable authentication and identity management stands to become a business enabler for Collabrios Health. The PACE leader can outpace the market by keeping its engineers focused on the core product while also giving government organizations and hospitals the confidence of reliable, secure, and user-friendly access.

Ameya Ambardekar, SVP of Engineering at Collabrios Health, said:

“We would recommend Descope to healthcare organizations that serve a variety of stakeholders with different UX, security, and identity needs. The platform provides a flexible, cost-effective, and developer-friendly way to add authentication to any customer or partner-facing app.”
